Residents in Victoria, Australia, are being urged to have their say on road safety in the state.
Minister for Roads, Road Safety and TAC, Jaala Pulford has launched Victoria’s Next Road Safety Strategy Survey which aims to help the Victorian Government make the state’s road network safer.
“The ideas and insights of Victorians will be central to the next road safety strategy, because we all have a role to play in creating safer roads,” said Pulford. “I encourage all Victorians to share their thoughts by filling out the survey – your insights are vital in creating safer roads, reducing injury and saving lives.”
The state-wide survey is the third stage of community engagement that will help the development of a strategy that will be launched next year and take over from the current Towards Zero Strategy and Action Plan.
Last month, the Victorian Government wrapped up its series of eight Towards Zero Regional Road Safety Forums, which sought the insights, ideas and experiences of regional Victorians. Key themes included safe speeds and driver behaviour, the need for more enforcement, road user education and training, road condition and maintenance, the use of technology, and flexible safety barriers.
Ideas from the summit, regional forums and Victoria’s Next Road Safety Strategy Survey will help shape the state’s next road safety strategy which will have the overarching goal of zero deaths and serious injuries.
The current four-year Towards Zero Strategy, launched in 2016, has invested $1.7 billion into road safety infrastructure, technology, education and enforcement.
