SWOV, the Institute for Road Safety Research in the Netherlands, has published a new report looking at cycling infrastructure and its contribution to the risk of bicycle crashes.
The study looks at various infrastructure elements including urban versus rural areas, network route choice, roundabouts, road sections and intersections.
SWOV claims there is a growing body of evidence that several infrastructure features relate to cycling safety, but says the evidence is still based on a limited number of studies and calls for more research to be done.
