A new car dealership in South Australia has put a crashed car on display to customers as part of a national initiative to build consumer awareness and understanding of vehicle safety.
CMI Toyota is displaying a crashed Toyota Corolla Hybrid hatch that carries the marks of a side pole test replicating a run-off-road collision with a tree or pole. It is on display alongside its un-crashed equivalent.

âImprovements have been made to reduce the number of lives lost on South Australiaâs roads, but there is still a lot more to be done as any death on our roads is one too many,â said Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Corey Wingard MP. âSafety should be the priority whenever we take to the streets, and displays such as this help prioritise whatâs important.â
Australasiaâs independent vehicle safety authority, ANCAP, announced last year it was stepping up its engagement with car dealerships and consumers by displaying crash-tested vehicle wrecks in new car showrooms. The national initiative is supported by the Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure and the RAA.
âNone of us want to have a crash, but being in the newest, safest car you can afford can help reduce the risk and improve the outcome,â ANCAP Chief Executive, James Goodwin said. âGiving consumers the opportunity to see and sit in a car which has purposely been designed to protect makes the safety consideration real.â
