Automated pedestrian crossings are now in operation at selected pop-up COVID-19 assessment clinics in New South Wales, Australia, to help limit the spread of coronavirus.
Signals have been automated in the immediate vicinity of Bondi Beach, Windsor and Redfern temporary clinics as part of an initiative by Transport for NSW to introduce them at key health precincts across the state to protect the most vulnerable.
“This means pedestrians no longer need to push the ‘call’ button to activate the pedestrian signal crossings while still being able to cross the road safely and access health services,” said Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer, Howard Collins.
Automated pedestrian crossings have already been operating in Sydney CBD as well as at major health precincts, where hospitals with emergency departments operate 24 hours.
