A major upgrade to one of England’s busiest stretches of motorway has improved traffic flow and reduced the number of collisions, according to Highways England.
Extra lanes and new technology on the M6 in Cheshire have resulted in an estimated 30 percent reduction in collisions along the route. There were 68 incidents reported from April to June this year, compared to 97 incidents during the same three months in 2015 – that’s an average of 10 fewer incidents every month. Peak-time drivers are also travelling up to 15 miles per hour faster than before work started.
“The upgrade of the M6 has made a significant improvement to journey times for our fleet at Arclid Transport,” said Andy Brookes, Managing Director of the haulage firm based close to junction 17 of the M6.
“The most noticeable factor is the reliability of the flow of traffic, meaning we are now more certain of estimated arrival times for our customers because there are far fewer delays.”
