IDS client Transport for London and partner the IAM scoop prestigious awards
In October 2015, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) announced the 2015 winners of its PRAISE awards, which have seen TfL and the IAM recognised for their efforts to improve road safety at work.
Transport for London won the Public authority award, with the following program highlights:
- RoadRISK assessment led approved driver scheme for all 3,820 drivers.
- All collisions, incidents and near misses reported and investigated.
- Improvements driven through supply chain thanks to construction logistics and freight operator recognition schemes.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists collected the small and medium-sized enterprise award, with the following program highlights:
- Online and on-road risk assessment of all staff driving on work business.
- Annual targets to reduce total mileage and number of collisions.
- Company car scheme requires Euro NCAP five-star rating; random inspection of vehicles.
Both were honoured at a conference and award ceremony held in Brussels Tuesday 20 October 2015.
Antonio Avenoso, executive director of ETSC, said: “Organisations, large and small, have a pivotal role to play by putting road safety considerations at the heart of their operations. The organisations we recognised today are driving the change with initiatives that reduce collisions, prevent injuries and also help the bottom line.”
Transport for London receives royal recognition supported by partners Interactive Driving Systems and Institute of Advanced Motorists
In November 2015, TfL’s reduction of work-related road risk was lauded by this year’s Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards judging panel.
TfL’s program was rewarded for emphasising ‘safe and sustainable mobility’ through its Approved Driver scheme based on driver risk assessment, coaching and vehicle safety. The program ensures staff undertake the online RoadRISK assessment and Pledge, working to improve their knowledge of road safety – in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Motorists and Interactive Driving System.
The Prince Michael Road Safety Awards recognise achievements in road safety and are presented to the most outstanding examples across the world.
Nick Brown, Managing Director, London Underground and London Rail at TfL, added: “It’s fantastic to see our innovative engagement with staff on such an important issue recognised in this way. Our Work Related Road Risk program has demonstrated real benefits in raising driving standards across our road vehicle fleet and reducing collisions.”
